The Hill Tracts Run: A Touring Guide That Assumes You Care (Copy)

Route notes, fuel stops, tyre pressures and the corners worth waking up at 4am for.

Words by Rafid Hasan

The road into the hill tracts is the best driving road in the country, and it punishes the unprepared.

Start before sunrise. The fog burns off around 7am and the light between 6 and 6:40 is the reason you came.

Fuel discipline matters: plan a full tank before the climb and do not assume the last two stations are open.

Tyre pressures a few PSI below highway spec transform the mid-corner feel on the broken surfaces near the top.
